February 2005
Weisbrod Chinese Art, Ltd. is delighted to announce our Spring 2005 exhibition, "Opulence and Desire: The Tang Dynasty," March 28th- May 26th. The exhibition will showcase an extraordinary variety of Tang objects whose splendor and exceptionality will prove a vibrant contribution to this year's Asia Week, and beyond.
Illustrated, is a superb "Three-Color Glazed Pottery Jar with Molded Medallions," especially chosen for its vivid and richly detailed polychrome, splashed glaze and exceptionally rare, high-quality floral medallion reliefs. Bold and ornate, this sancai jar epitomizes the extravagant spirit of the Tang Dynasty and its predilection towards the new and exciting aesthetics derived from contemporary foreign cultures.
Also featured in our exhibition, is our "Object Under Spotlight," a magnificent "Group of Four Glazed Pottery Figures, Sancai with Turquoise," consisting of two lokapalas and two dignitaries. The extravagance and brilliance of the figures' decorations and moldings, incorporating the rare turquoise glaze, attest to the Tang taste for sumptuous and striking funerary traditions. To view these magnificent tomb figures, visit our website under "Object Under Spotlight."
Other objects selected to embody the abundance and brilliance of this 'Golden Age' in Chinese history and art (618- 907), include the brilliant "Glazed Earthenware Horse and Groom, Sancai," as well as the rare and alluring "Sandstone Bodhisattva." Smaller, personal objects such as the extraordinary "Parcel Gilt Silver Ladle," a rare "Agate Dish" used as cosmetic tray, as well as jade figures such as the delightful "Jade Dancer" and "Foreign Tribute Bearer," are equally significant highlights to the exhibition. It is our aspiration that this diverse collection will justly portray an era remarkable in its time for being so greatly immersed in the mood of achievement, beauty, and vitality.
We sincerely hope that you will be able to visit our New York gallery and enjoy our exciting exhibition this Spring. Please contact us if you have any specific interests so that we may send you photographs and entries as a preview of the exhibition. If you are unable to attend, please visit our website to view our
